After years in the FIFO cycle, Ryan and Sophie were ready for a change. Sophie, a Goldfields–Leonora local who left in her early twenties to travel, was drawn back by the region’s mix of career opportunities and a supportive community. Ryan, originally from Perth, was ready to step away from fifteen years in FIFO and follow his ambition of running his own business.
Their move to Kalgoorlie delivered exactly what they were seeking. Sophie is now the Business Adviser at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry, helping local enterprises grow and succeed, while Ryan owns Hurlaw Contracting, a thriving carpentry and handyman business.
Life in Kalgoorlie is about more than work for Ryan and Sophie. They enjoy golf, horse racing, camping, and good food, all within minutes of home. For them, Kalgoorlie offers the perfect mix of opportunity, connection, and lifestyle.
