Street Assertive Outreach worker

This position is responsible to improve actual and perceived level of street present in the City thoroughfares and Public space Via patrols. To facilitate an integrated approach between specialist homelessness services and mainstream agencies and to assist clients with shelter/environmental circumstances, considering individual, cultural and lifestyle choices.

ESSENTIAL:

Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for in accordance with section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).  

  • Ability to communicate with indigenous people from different communities and interest groups;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a community-based organisation;
  • Cross cultural sensitivity and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal Communities and people;
  • Sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture & family dynamics and the impact of trauma;
  • Ability to manage challenging and aggressive behaviours when dealing with intoxicated clients;
  • Flexibility to work the hours required of the position.
  • Ability to perform soundly in a crisis situation;
  • Current Police Certificate (within 3 months) and Working with Children Check;
  • Current WA “C” Class Drivers Licence;

DESIRABLE:

  • Well-developed computer skills including the use of all Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certificate II or higher in Community Services Qualification;
  • Current First Aid Certificate
