PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Midwife: This position will provide comprehensive antenatal and postnatal care to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) women of the Goldfields region. A key component of the role is to work in partnership with other maternity providers to ensure women receive timely and culturally appropriate care with the aim of closing the gap in maternal health outcomes. 

ESSENTIAL:

  • Bachelor of Nursing and/or Midwifery qualifications;
  • High level oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relate well to staff and to liaise effectively with key stakeholders;
  • An understanding of the principles of Primary Health Care and the issues affecting ATSI women and families in the perinatal period;
  • Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality and a high level of accuracy;
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively determine priorities to ensure deadlines are met;
  • Work effectively as a member of a team in an environment of competing priorities;
  • Ability to undertake travel throughout the Goldfields, including overnight stays (of up to 3 nights in duration) as required;
  • WA “C” Class drivers’ licence;
  • DESIRABLE:

  • Demonstrated experience providing community based antenatal and postnatal care in collaboration with other health providers and within the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council National Competency standards for a Midwife;
  • Current Immunisation provider certificate;
  • Experience using Communicare or similar electronic patient information and recall systems to document patient care and generate reports.
