The role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering culturally safe, community-led cancer prevention and health promotion initiatives that support improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This includes increasing awareness, supporting early detection, and improving participation in national screening programs, while strengthening culturally responsive care pathways in partnership with community, Elders, and clinical teams.

The position contributes to the Improving First Nations Cancer Outcomes Program and aligns with national and Closing the Gap priorities.

Essential Criteria

  • Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. This is an identified position under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). Demonstrates a strong cultural connection, including respect for Elders, cultural authority, local protocols, and an understanding of Aboriginal ways of being, doing and knowing.
  • Demonstrated experience in health promotion and/or community engagement, with the ability to deliver culturally safe, strengths-based and community-centred programs that reflect the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the social, cultural and historical determinants of health, with the ability to apply this knowledge to support improved health outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and deliver programs, build trusted relationships with community members and stakeholders, and communicate effectively across community, clinical and partner settings.
  • Ability to manage priorities, use data to inform program delivery, and demonstrate commitment to continuous quality improvement and evidence-informed practice, including valuing Aboriginal knowledge systems

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current WA Driver’s Licence.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current National Police Clearance (issued within the last three months).
