Cancer Support Officer

The Cancer Support Officer provides culturally safe, practical support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, families, and community members throughout the cancer journey.

Working under the direction of the Health Promotion Coordinator – Cancer Services, this role supports access to screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care by assisting clients to navigate health and community services, coordinating referrals, and strengthening engagement with care.

The position contributes to improved cancer outcomes through client support, community engagement, and integration with Primary Health Services.

Essential Criteria

• Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with the ability to engage respectfully using culturally safe approaches (e.g. yarning).
• Experience supporting Aboriginal individuals, families, or communities in a health, community, or social setting (paid or voluntary).
• Ability to provide culturally appropriate support and assist clients in navigating health and community services.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust and work effectively with community members and service providers.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, follow direction, and contribute to shared outcomes.
• Willingness to learn and participate in training related to cancer support, health promotion, and health systems.

Mandatory Requirements

• Current WA "C" Class Driver's Licence.
• Current National Police Clearance.
• Current Working with Children Check.
